Massey University in Palmerston North where Eric is working.
Driving east from Palmerston North we stopped at this kiwi monument in Eketahuna.
We visited the Mount Bruce National Wildlife Center.
Katie is standing next to a grove of redwood trees.
Tyler is checking out a wetlands area with a duck pond.
Eels were swimming in the river at the center.
We watched several takahe feeding. These are beautiful
flightless birds with bright blue heads and green backs.
One night we made an excursion to one of the glow worm caves.
The group is outfitted with headlamps for the walk up the streambed to a grotto with glow worms.
The Manawatu Gorge is only about 20 minutes from Palmy.
Jan is showing one of the NZ symbols, the Silver Fern.
The Tararu Wind Farm overlooks the Manawatu Gorge.
We could see quite a distance from the foot of the wind turbines.
This is typical of a lot scenes in southwest North Island.
We saw sheep everywhere from these hillside
slopes to thousands grazing in paddocks.
